Hi Learners
Welcome to a new MOOC course offered by Vidyasagar Teachers' Training College (VTTC) which is developed and created by course coordinator is Dr Ranita Banerjee, Asst Professor, VTTC. This course follows the four quadrant approach of MOOC creation.
This Course is named as "Assessment for Learning" which is a six-week course on various tools of Assessment. This course is crucial for prospective teachers who are going to evaluate their learners in regular classrooms. The course coordinator is Dr Ranita Banerjee, Asst Professor, VTTC who will guide you in your journey. This course will contain four units which will be conducted in four weeks with videos, e-tutorials, quizzes and discussion forum. The last week of course will have a final exam which will decide the final grade. The course will be conducted and evaluated in online mode.
NEP 2020 has suggested the revamping of evaluation systems and has seen assessment as a tool for improvement. In this light this course will try to acquaint young teachers with latest evaluation techniques suitable for 21st century classrooms!!!
Course Learning Objectives
The learners will be able to:- 1. Get basic knowledge of assessment for learning. 2. Know the process of evaluation and it uses. 3. Write educational objectives. 4. Know different techniques of evaluation, tools of evaluation and their uses. 5. Know different characteristics of instruments of evaluation. 6. Know different types of teacher made tests and will construct them. 7. Compute simple statistics to assess the learning.
COURSE DETAILS
The course will have four units:
Unit I: Different types of Evaluation
Unit II: Psychological Tests & Reliability & Validity
Unit III: Types of Psychological Tests

Measurement and Evaluation are something which can inform us about the qualities or attributes of any object, event or situation. By applying the principles of Measurement and Evaluation information or data can be collected which will result in informed decision making. While measurement focuses on quantitative aspects or attributes of an object, evaluation emphasizes both quantitative and qualitative attributes. Thus, measurement can be considered as a part of the evaluation process.
In this course we will study about Measurement and Evaluation in detail. The course will have four units:
Unit I: Measurement- concept, tools, scales, properties, need
Unit II: Evaluation- concept, characteristics, steps, types, difference with Measurement
Unit III: Bloom's Taxonomy
Unit IV: Psychological Tests
This course will be conducted on weekly basis-each week there will be a practice test of 10 marks, one assignment to be written in 300 words and a final evaluation at the end of all four units.
